1965 KARMANN GHIA

This right-hand-drive, Kiwi-new Karmann is a true survivor with remarkable provenance and charming patina.

This black beauty has just celebrated her 60th birthday on Auckland roads and has always been with the original owner’s family. It is in fine fettle for a car entering its seventh decade.
The vendor’s father bought the Karmann from the central Auckland distributor in Newton in March 1965. It was the car in which he taught a youthful Perrine to drive and she ended up buying it from her dad when her Mini dramatically expired on one of Auckland’s steepest streets.
It’s since been a constant in her family’s life, serving as a dependable commuter, holiday hauler, a car for special occasions, and most recently as a reliable classic for occasional use.
In a nutshell, OZ907 is rust-free thanks to extensive panel work in recent years and the overall structure is very sound. It sails through Warrant of Fitness inspections. All significant work has been documented and receipts are available.
The current engine was imported from the US and fitted in 2007 and has the same 1200cc capacity as the original. It goes surprisingly well, still feels fresh and benefits from electronic ignition. Brakes, clutch and exhaust system have all been renewed.
The paintwork is consistent rather than brilliant, chromework and glazing are good, and the cabin has stood the test of time. Some wear is obvious on the front seats but the carpeting is near-new.
Every drive in a Karmann Ghia is an event and this Kiwi-new survivor attracts lots of positive attention.
